Lombok International Airport (LOP) is in the south of the island, so every transfer to our villas is a long road journey: about 70 to 90 minutes to Malimbu and 90 to 110 minutes to Sira Beach by private car. Flights connect via Bali, Jakarta, Singapore and Kuala Lumpur, and Bali boats land at Bangsal or Lembar.
We manage villas in Lombok on two very different stretches of the north-west coast, and the first thing nearly every guest asks is how long it takes to get there. The honest answer is longer than most people expect. Lombok looks small on a map, but the airport is in the south and the coast we love is in the north-west.
This guide gives door-to-door times to our actual villa locations, what each option costs, and the trade-offs we’d want to know about ourselves. Where we quote figures from published sources, treat them as planning ranges. Times and fares move, and we’re happy to confirm the current picture before you book.
Arriving By Air: Flights to Lombok
Lombok’s airport is on the south coast near Praya, and it’s the island’s main gateway. From the terminal to any of our villas you head north, so build that into your plans from the start.
Are There Direct Flights to Lombok?
Yes. LOP has scheduled nonstop flights to 14 destinations with 12 airlines, and Jakarta is by far the busiest route. The only international nonstops are to Kuala Lumpur and Singapore. According to a route tracker updated in October 2026, Kuala Lumpur is served by AirAsia, Batik Air and other carriers, while Singapore is served by Singapore Airlines and Tigerair. The longest nonstop is Kuala Lumpur, so travellers from Europe, North America or Australia will connect, most often through Singapore, Kuala Lumpur, Jakarta or Bali. From Bali there are daily flights to Lombok.
Routes and airlines change, so check your booking engine rather than relying on any article, including ours.
Practical Points for Flying In
- Book one ticket where you can. If your first flight runs late and your second is on a separate booking, the airline owes you nothing.
- Don’t squeeze the connection. The road transfer is long enough that a stressful flight day makes it feel longer.
- Sort your entry paperwork first. The visa on arrival and e-VOA both cost IDR 500,000 for a 30-day stay, extendable once. International arrivals also complete the All Indonesia arrival declaration in the three days before landing. A fee rise has been discussed, but official information still showed IDR 500,000 at the time of that report. Check the immigration site before you travel. If you enter via Bali, a separate IDR 150,000 Bali tourist levy applies.
The trade-off: if you’re already in Bali, the flight is short but the total time isn’t. You still have an airport at each end and the long Lombok road. We compare it with the boat below.
From Lombok Airport to Sira Beach
How Far Is Sira Beach From Lombok Airport?
Sira Beach is on Lombok’s north-west tip, and the airport is in the south. By road it is about 63 km, roughly 1 hour 34 minutes by car on one mapping estimate. Other listings for properties on the beach put it at 97 to 102 minutes, and one beachfront villa describes it as approximately 90 minutes’ drive. A resort a little further along the beach is listed at 105 to 110 minutes. Plan on 90 to 110 minutes with no stops, and more if you add a toilet break, a snack or slow traffic.
We say this plainly because it’s what surprises guests most. Many expect a short hop from the airport. For Sira, you cross a large part of the island.
What the Route Is Like
You leave the airport area on the bypass, head towards Mataram and the west coast, and then follow the coast road north through Senggigi. One official hotel route description uses Jl. Bypass Bandara, Jl. Lingkar Selatan and Jl. Raya Meninting to reach Senggigi. Sira is another stretch beyond that: a resort on the beach lists Senggigi as 36.5 km and about 49 minutes away. Expect scooters, trucks and the occasional cow on the coast road. A driver who knows the road matters more here than on a motorway.
The Upside of the Long Drive
Sira is quieter than the busier parts of the coast, and you pay for that in transfer time. It also has one real convenience: the Bangsal harbour for the Gili boats is listed at roughly 10 to 14 minutes by road from properties on Sira Beach. If the Gilis are in your plans, that part is easy. If you’re staying at this six-bedroom beachfront villa, the long drive ends with the sea in front of you rather than a hotel lobby.
The Honest Trade-Off
If you only have two or three nights, a transfer of this length at each end takes a real bite out of your holiday. For a short stay, a villa closer to the airport or nearer Senggigi may suit you better. For a week or more, the drive is a small price for the beach.
From Lombok Airport to Malimbu and Senggigi
Malimbu sits just north of Senggigi on the west coast. It is closer to the airport than Sira but still a substantial drive.
How Long Is the Drive to Malimbu?
By road Malimbu is about 56 km from the airport, around 1 hour 15 minutes on one mapping estimate. Other listings give 68 to 77 minutes, and a villa operator describes about 1.5 hours. Our planning range is 70 to 90 minutes in normal traffic.
Lombok Airport to Senggigi
Senggigi is the nearer of the two. Estimates cluster around 46 to 47 km and about an hour, while a transfer company gives 50.67 km and 1 hour 8 minutes. One hotel there puts the distance at 31 miles. Allow an hour to an hour and a quarter.
What the Final Stretch Is Like
The first part crosses the busier inland roads around Mataram, and the coast comes at the end. The Senggigi to Malimbu section is scenic, but it’s a winding coastal road and slower than the map suggests. From Malimbu Cliff Villa, Senggigi Beach is listed at about 11 to 13 minutes away, which makes restaurants and shops easy. Bangsal harbour is listed at about 10 km from the villa, so Gili day trips are straightforward.
When you enquire at Malimbu Cliff Villa, tell us your group size and luggage so we match the vehicle to the road.
The Honest Trade-Off
Malimbu suits guests who want a shorter transfer and Senggigi’s restaurants close by. Sira suits guests who put space and quiet ahead of convenience. Neither is wrong. We’d rather you choose with the transfer time in mind than discover it on arrival.
Arriving By Sea: Bali Boats and the Gili Harbour
You don’t have to fly into LOP at all, and the port you land at decides how far you still have to drive.
The Public Ferry to Lembar
The ASDP ferry runs from Padang Bai in east Bali to Lembar on Lombok’s south-west coast. It operates around the clock, and the crossing averages roughly 4.5 hours over about 38 nautical miles. On one July 2026 timetable, at least 13 ferries a day were running, including KMP Roditha, Salindo Mutiara I, Wihan Bahari, Parama Kalyani and Dharma Ferry IX. Only the conventional ASDP ferry to Lembar takes cars and motorbikes.
Fares are low. The standard adult tariff for the Lembar to Padang Bai crossing was listed at IDR 65,300 before seasonal discounts. Discounted tickets were sold through the official Ferizy site and app.
The catch: Lembar is on the south-west coast, so you still face a long road to the north-west. It takes about 60-70 minutes to drive from Lembar harbour to Sira and to Malimbu. This is the budget route, not the quick one.
Fast Boats
Fast boats are quicker. Boats leave Bali from Padang Bai, Sanur, Serangan and Amed. Padang Bai has the shortest crossing: about 1.5 hours to the Gilis, against about 3.5 hours from Sanur. There are around 41 sailings a week between Bangsal and Padang Bai, taking roughly 1 hour 43 minutes. That Bangsal landing is a useful one for our villas, because it is the closest port to both Sira and Malimbu.
Operators on these routes include BlueWater Express, Gili Gili Fast Boat and Semaya One, and Gili Getaway. Fares vary. A July 2026 guide lists IDR 360,000 to 690,000 from Bali to Gili Trawangan, while another source says prices start from about IDR 264,000. Most operators ask you to check in about 60 minutes before departure.
Trade-Offs of the Sea Route
- Weather matters. In good weather a fast boat crosses in about 80 minutes, but heavy seas can push it past two hours. Don’t plan a tight same-day flight after a boat arrival.
- Check the arrival port. A boat that lands at Lembar saves you little time.
- Book your onward transfer in advance. A driver at the port is far easier than finding one on the quay.
Lombok to Gili: the Harbour for the Islands
How long from the Lombok airport to the Gili ferry? The main public harbour is Bangsal, and the drive from the airport takes about 1.5 hours. Add time for tickets and boarding. The crossing from Bangsal to Gili Trawangan takes around 30 minutes. Fast boats from Bangsal are described as taking about 15 minutes, local boats 30. Public boat fares are small and posted at the harbour office. One guide lists IDR 25,000 per person. Prices differ by source, so confirm on the day.
Our advice: don’t connect a late flight to a morning boat without a buffer. Sleep at your villa and cross the next day. From Sira or Malimbu, the harbour is a short drive.
Private Transfer vs Taxi vs Self-Drive
For most guests a pre-booked private transfer is the right first leg. After a flight, the last thing you want is to negotiate, navigate and drive on unfamiliar roads.
| Private transfer | Airport taxi | Public bus (Damri) | Self-drive | |
| Best for | Families, groups, late arrivals | Couples or solo travellers on a budget | Solo, light luggage, no rush | Experienced drivers, week-plus stays |
| Typical cost to Senggigi | IDR 300,000 to 500,000 per car (third-party guide); hotel shuttle IDR 410,000 | About IDR 300,000 (hotel estimate); one guide lists around IDR 190,000 | From IDR 20,000 | Hire price plus fuel |
| Door-to-door | Yes | Yes | No, last stop is Senggigi Beach | Yes |
| Night arrival | Easiest | Possible | Unlikely | Not recommended |
| Main drawback | Costs more | Fare haggling after a long trip | Doesn’t reach Malimbu or Sira | Unfamiliar roads |
Private transfer. This is what we recommend. Give us your flight number, group size and luggage and we’ll match the vehicle. Third-party guides list private cars to Bangsal at IDR 400,000 to 650,000, though that guide is older. Sira is a little further than Bangsal, so expect a fare at or above that.
Taxi. You can book a fixed-price ride at the official counter in the arrivals hall, and an airport fee of around IDR 18,000 applies. One guide describes aggressive dealing from touts at the airport, so stick to the official counter. After a long journey it still means a long ride with a driver you don’t know.
Bus. Damri runs to Bangsal, Senggigi and Mataram, with fares from IDR 20,000. It’s the cheapest option, and the stops don’t reach our villas.
Self-drive. It gives you freedom once settled, but we wouldn’t make it your first-day plan. Scooters, trucks and animals share the road, and some stretches are unlit at night. Check licence and insurance rules with your hire company. A good compromise is a private transfer in, then a driver or rental for exploring.
Arrival-Day Tips
Check boat times the day before. Sea conditions and timetables change, so confirm directly with your operator.
Aim to land in daylight. The transfer is long, and a morning or early-afternoon arrival lets you settle in before dark.
Is it safe to drive at night? It can be done with a professional driver who knows the route, but we wouldn’t choose it for a first night. We would not recommend self-driving the route in the dark on arrival.
Pack a small arrival bag. Water, snacks, medication, a charger and a light layer, in the cabin with you and not in the boot.
Carry some rupiah. Don’t rely on finding an ATM on the road. ATMs in Tanjung are limited, so withdraw cash before heading north.
Tell us your flight number. If your plane is delayed, we want to know, so the driver can adjust.
Build a buffer on departure day. The drive from the coast to the airport takes as long as the drive in. Leave early and avoid tight connections.

How long is the drive to Malimbu?
From Lombok airport, Malimbu takes about 70 to 90 minutes. Senggigi is nearer, at roughly an hour. The final stretch is a winding coastal road, so we’d always allow a margin for traffic.
Can you arrange airport pick-up?
Yes. Tell us your flight number, arrival time, group size and luggage, and we’ll arrange a driver to meet you.
Are there direct flights to Lombok?
Yes. LOP has nonstop flights from Jakarta, Bali, Surabaya and other Indonesian cities, plus Kuala Lumpur and Singapore. Routes change, so check at booking. From farther away you’ll connect.
